Traveler ReviewsBeautiful and Peaceful

Cemetery tourism isn't for everyone, but this is such a beautiful park/cemetery that I would recommend it to most. The buildings are beautiful--especially the long arcades. You can spend all of your time here, but the open portion of the park is worth a look as well, filled with very touching memorials and graves.
Anyone who is interested in Croatian history should definitely prioritize a stop here, as many of Croatia's national heroes (including the controversial Franjo Tudman) are buried in Mirogoj. There are also memorials to various groups, including those who died during Croatia's separation from Yugoslavia.
It's easy to get to the cemetery--a 10 minute bus ride from Kaptol Square brings you there. With a decent map you could probably walk it if you like.
A monument of love

The Mirogoj is definitively one of the most beautiful cemeteries of the world.
Besides of the magnificent arkada's entrance, the lovely chapels, the long tree-lined Alleys, Mirogoj's beauty sparkes from the singular and neverending affection people of Zagreb and all Croatia has toward it, as a shrine of its most important and priced values.
A society buond by faith in the afterlife and family love, you can clearly see in its simple tombs often with no personal photos or sometimes ever names.
A nation grewn stronger in suffering and fights ,that you can clearly see in the monuments to the great ones of the past, to the national heroes, to the too many fallen for the country and freedom, sometimes magnificent ,so much more often simple ones but made so much more precious by flowers and candles common people keep put on it...
Mirogoj shines of love, light and faith and still lot of life shine from it...
The greatest cemetery in Europe

We visited the cemetery in April, 2007. Cemeteries are my "thing" and
I drag my husband through them all over the world. A country's history is contained in cemeteries. This is one of the most fascinating and the highlight of our stay in Zagreb. You will never see anything quite like it from the arcade to the mosaics to the war memorials donated by countries who lost soldiers here during WWII. It is easily reached by public bus from above the main square. Don't
miss it!
