The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is in the middle of a temple with a small garden where it is possible to take a little rest. The pagoda itself is not much to look at really, but the age and the height of it makes it stand out. But what really make this a nice place to visit is the temple itself and the area around it.
When we visited there was a huge crowd of people having photos taken around the large statue at the front of the temple, so it was difficult to get a good photo of the site from there. And there wasn?t much else to see there either. However, in the area to the left of the temple there were a lot of very interesting bronze statues, and around the back there is a huge relief that depicts various scenes from the history of Xian.
The relief is actually immediately behind the dancing fountains. We visited in the afternoon, and the fountains were not working at that time at least.
Don't miss the dancing fountains

Originally built as a repository for sacred Buddhist texts translated back in 652 by the monk Xuan Zhang who had previously travelled to India the pagoda dominates the Da Ci'en Temple which surrounds it.
Outside the temple is the recently constructed Big Goose Pagoda Square which comes alive at night with its amazing dancing fountain show. Check locally to find the time of performance which varies.
