Traveler DescriptionLocated in the center of the city, where the two rivers meet, "the Forks" was first used as a meeting place for Native Canadians, then as a base for fur traders and later as a fort. Today, it's a popular scenic park with historic landmarks and notes.

My family just returned from our 1st trip to Winnipeg on April 3. Our first stop was at The Forks. Although it was very cold on our visit, there was still much to see and do. The Forks has the Explore Manitoba Visitor Center, an Observation Tower that is accessible by elevator that overlooks the Red River, many unique/gift shops, a Children's Museum, walking trails, and outdoor skating rink (which on our trip was closed for the season), and many places to dine. We ate at the Old Spaghetti Factory which was very reasonable for the amount of food we received. The Inn at the Forks is located in the middle of the area. There is a parking ramp for vistors which was free. The only thing disappointing was that part of the walking trails were flooded at this time of the year, but there was still plenty to do and see.
