Trip to Stingray City, Grand Cayman
Reviewed by A TripAdvisor Member on Oct 14, 2008

I recently jet skied to stingray City Sandbar and even though I had gone once already, I found this new experience the most exhilarating yet. When my friend Dalia told me we would be going to Stingray City with Jet Ski, I was excited by the fact that this would be an experience out of the ordinary boat trip. Dalia, Alina and myself purchased some squid at the gas station (they are sold frozen by the pound at the gas station) to feed the stingrays. My last trip to the sandbar I saw and experience the feeding of the stingrays, so I pretty much knew what to do. We met with Peter ? owner and operator for Fat Fish Charters, our first impression of him was how courteous he was. I am not a mermaid, I can barely swim and I have to admit I was a bit scare and a lot of what if when through my mind. Peter talked us through the experience and got feedback from us on our experiences. This left me feeling a little calmer that we were going to go with a guide that was very knowledgeable. We departed from Marine Park and within minutes we were already on our way. It was truly a mind-blowing experience and we all enjoyed our selves tremendously. We then went to Kaibo for drinks and chatted a bit, and then started back home. If you are very in the Cayman Island, definitely don't miss out on this great recreation activity. I can not recommend enough the expertise and professional service we got from Peter and how much fun it was to do sometime old in a new and exciting way. Webalyn.

My mom (70+) years young, located "stingraysailing.com" before we went on our cruise. We booked this tour and were thrilled that the price was half the cost of the cruise lines brochure price. When we arrived in Grand Cayman, we found the blue "stingray sailing tours" sign held by Chip Whitney. He had a red bandana on his head and a pirate look to him! The 33 year old gentle "Caymanian" told us we were the only two passengers booked today, and would we like a private tour! Yes! He took us by air-conditioned bus to his lovely 45 foot catamaran. He loaded fresh fruit, sodas and beer for the trip, and off we went. We motored out to the sandbar where the rays are, Chip got a bucket of fresh squid and helped us into the water. What a great experience. We had rays all around us Chip taught us how to feed them and we spent about an hour in the water with these incredible rays. They are so soft but boy, are they hungry! After working through all of our squid, Chip helped us aboard our "private catamaran", we couldn't help but smile and wave to the overloaded boats that were arriving with the cruise ship passengers! Chip brought our boat over to the reef where he outfitted us with snorkeling gear (he has plenty on board), and he then took us on a tour of the reef. He pointed out moray eels and the many different coral formations and the colorful fish. We were comfortable with snorkeling, so he told us to stay out as long as we like, and he prepared the catamaran for sailing. When we were done snorkeling, he helped us aboard an offered us fresh fruit and water. He had sodas available for a few bucks, beer also. Chip then hoisted the sails and we were off! The breeze for sailing was perfect. As we were passed by a overloaded tour boat, we once again, couldn't help but smiling and waving! Bet they were jealous of our tour! If you go to Grand Cayman. I highly recommend this tour. My mother and I had such a lovely day, I'm sure we will be talking about it for years. Thanks Chip for a wonderful day!

One Of The Most Amazing Experiences

My boyfriend and I traveled to Grand Caymans with another couple in January of 2008. I had already researched Stingray City to the nines before we left and was convinced I was going to do it, regardless of the fact that everyone else I was traveling with protested to wanting to go. We arranged a tour with a woman who was standing by the cruise ship pier, it took us snorkelling, to the sandbar, and then to Seven Mile Beach. This is, by far, the most amazing experience I've ever had. Out of the 4 of us, I was the only one brave enough to go in the water and all the others now wish they did. Remember that these stingrays are used to people, and provided you don't step on them, they aren't going to hurt you! Shuffle your feet when walking to prevent this from happening. Bring some snorkel gear (usually provided by your tour guides) and watch these creatures swim gracefully through the water. I held on for quite a few minutes, and the guide even rubbed it's underside along my back. You'd think they're slimy/gross feeling but really, they just feel like wet rubber. Our guide has one stingray that always finds him, and pretty much cuddles with him the whole time he's there. Try this out! It's incredible, the water is beautiful, and the sting rays are very gentle creatures provided you respect them and don't step on them. Please excuse the poor quality of some of my pictures, some were with a bad quality water proof camera.

Excellent Tour Guide of Stingray City

A couple of weeks ago, my family went on a Carnival cruise of the Western Caribbean. I pre-booked excursions that were not part of Carnival's program. Our tour was with Chip Whitney of Stingraysailing.com. We took his catamaran with 24 other people to Stingray City. He provided us with snorkeling equipment and life jackets that were in good condition, free water and had sodas, bottled water, and beer for sale on board. His cat also had a head (restroom on board). When we got to stingray city, he had bait ready to attract the stingrays and made sure we all stayed in our own group. We had a great time with the rays; touching them as they glided by and occasionally having one of them glide up our legs looking for a snack. We then moved on to a coral reef and saw a 5 foot eel and a wide variety of corals and marine life. We recommend him to anyone planning on visiting Stingray City.

Moby Dick Tours - Best Bet and 1/2 the price from the dock
Reviewed by A TripAdvisor Member on Aug 8, 2008

Get off the boat and sign up with Moby Dick tours, on the dock in Grand Cayman. FANTASTIC! What else can I say. The best $40 (cash only) spent ($79 off the cruse ship!) Moby Dick Touirs made my Grand Cayman experience the best stop during our RK Liberty of the Seas cruise stop last week. We didn't book from the ship. We got off the ship, came close to buying a trip from some locals (get what you pay for) the folks at Moby Dick Tours talked us into it and boy we have no regrets. Some friends of ours booked a similar trip (different company) through the cruise ship the same day for twice the price and it turned out to be a disaster. They had too many people and only a small time in the water. Our experience with Moby Dick Tours was perfect from end to end. What else can I say, Great Booking Folks, Great bus trip (No A/C but no big deal), great boat trip, great crew....Moby Dick is GREAT! The whole experience was more fun then you could imagine.
