Honeymoon Scuba Experience with JADS
Reviewed by A TripAdvisor Member on Oct 13, 2008

My wife and I decided to earn our PADI Open Water Scuba certifications on our recent honeymoon (and first visit) to Aruba. We're both very comfortable in the water (she's a former collegiate diver and swimmer while some of my favorite experiences in the military involved waterborne operations). TripAdvisor.com reviews led us to JADS. We place more stock in honest customer feedback than in anything else. We understand exceptional customer service is the cornerstone of any successful business. And, as business owners, we also understand that it's impossible to please everyone all the time. Based on the reviews we read here, our expectation of JADS was fairly high when we booked our training with them. After having experienced their services, we're completely BLOWN AWAY by their friendliness, professionalism, and sincerity. We are true customer evangelists for JADS. Our experience began at 9:00AM when Chicha picked us up at our hotel, which was located in the high-rise district on the opposite side of the island. She's an absolutely lovely woman and a wealth of knowledge on all things Aruban. We stopped once along the way to pick up a pair of certified divers at their hotel and dropped them off at the marina for their scheduled boat dive with JADS. We were warmly greeted upon arrival and introduced to Walter who would be our instructor for the day. We completed the requisite paperwork, coursework and were soon on our way to the "closed water" portion of our training at Mangel Halto. Normally, the closed water training is conducted in a swimming pool, but in Aruba, the lagoon at Mangel Halto qualifies as "closed water". We donned our top notch rental equipment and took a short walk on a path through the mangrove trees and entered the warm water. After learning the basics and gaining confidence in our equipment, we went for a short, shallow dive for 38 minutes! On day one! From that point forward, we were hooked!!! We were given our 'hotel work' for the night which included watching the PADI DVD's and completing the bookwork. The next two days, Rudolf was our instructor. Like Walter, he was simply excellent. We had one more "closed water" training at Mangel Halto, as well as "open water" training at Rocky Beach and Baby Beach (located just behind the JADS office). Because we chose to dive with JADS during our honeymoon, JP and Rudolf graciously offered to preserve our experience in the form of a CD containing pictures and videos that Rudolf took during our last dive. Because were so impressed with everyone at JADS, and because they truly made our experience so wonderful by tailoring the training to our ability and schedule (and largely because Rudolf was leading a boat dive the next day) we jumped at the opportunity to sign up for it, even though it was the final day of our honeymoon. Rudolf once again brought the camera on our boat dive and took another CD worth of pictures and videos we will always treasure! A huge, heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone at JADS for helping to make our honeymoon so very special (and preserving it for us to share with our friends and family)! We can't wait to go back and see them all again!

Scuba in Aruba

I've been to Aruba 13 times since first going there in 1993. I only began diving in 2000 and usually used dive vendors in the high-rise area. After becoming tired of the huge crowds on the dive boats, I did a bit of research and learned about JADS. I was in Aruba from 8/29-9/14, 2008, and booked 8 dives prior to leaving New Jersey. I was pleasantly surprised by the friendliness, experience and the attention to detail that JP and his staff showed. The groups were small, which I was extremely happy about. Even though I brought my own equipment, the crew checked the gauges to ensure that all was good and even changed the tanks for the group between dives. And even though I booked ahead of time, they did not hold you to your schedule. One day that I was supposed to dive, a storm came through from Venezuala. The seas were a bit rough in the high-rise area, so I called to cancel the dive for the day and there was no issue in rescheduling. I was promptly picked up from my hotel each morning by Chicha. She was always willing to talk about Aruba and its sister island, Bonaire. And when the boat returned to the pier, she was waiting to take me and any others back to the hotel. There was one incident in which the boat was undergoing some work. Unfortunately, the mechanic didn't inform JP that the boat wasn't ready for a morning dive until we already arrived at the dock. JP was very apologetic to the group and made it up to us. Things happen and I felt JP was very professional in how he handled the situation. I definitely will be diving with JADs again and look forward to seeing the staff. -- Debra Norman

I had a wonderful experience with JADS Dive Center. Unlike many dive companies, JP and crew ask questions in regard to your personal dive experience and then try to customize the dive based on your comfort/skill level and what you want to see be it a reef or wreck or what ever. The group is small which is fabulous. You don't have to compete with 20 other divers in the water. The staff at JADS are professional and caring. I highly recommend them.

Great people and fun to dive with

Overall, a great operation - only small groups, reasonable prices, prompt and courteous service, they don't make you wake up at the crack of dawn, free hotel pickup and drop off, excellent rental equipment. I really enjoyed diving with them because they were personable and you could tell they were diving for the love of it, not just for the money. Safety was a priority and I appreciated the time they spent reviewing my experience so they would know what to expect. A few minor things though - a small boat (at least until the new one arrives), no camera rinse tank on board, bring your own snacks. I have issues with divemasters that lead a group by 20-30 ft and then start taking their own pictures (not of the dive group). I noticed he would check back frequently, but a distracted divemaster is not the ideal, even in 60 ft visibility.

Great Diving in Aruba

I'm a novice diver and my girlfriend had no diving experience. I was looking for a place with a lot of personal attention. Reading all the rave reviews decided to give JADS a try. Emailed them, got a really fast response, I was very surprised when Chicha was early to get us from the hotel. Once at the shop, met with Rudolf, watched a video and off we went. He's great! Lots of fun, very patient , willing to spend time and teach the skills. And you'll never get bored with him. My girlfriend who was very sceptical of diving at first, after diving with Rudolf LOVED the sport. We wanted to do another dive next day, but had time restraints, JP went all out and was able to accommodate us. Went diving with JP next morning, again, lots of attention to details, fun, made diving seem so easy. Overall great shop, great people, everyone is very friendly and I'm very happy that I've worked with them. I think of them more as friends then anything else. If I'll ever be back I'll definitely go to JEDS to dive :)
