This aquarium is a must-see for one reason: whale sharks. This aquarium has one of the largest aquariums in the world filled schools of manta rays and three huge whale sharks. You could watch a huge whale shark gliding through the water or observe a manta ray majestically swim like a bird through air. Amazing!!!
There are numerous viewing from which to look in the tank. The first view of above as ent er the portion of the aquarium containing the tank. There is a large viewing area with a seating area like in a theater or cafe where you can get a sit directly next to window if lucky. There is even a viewing are where ceiling is essentially the aquarium.
The best time to observe the aquarium is during the feeding time and it best to see this in the large viewing area right. You have to be right next to the window to see the feeding at the top of the tank. Whale sharks are filter feeders and do not eat large fish. Mostly fish. At the food hit the water at the top of the tank, all of the fish scattered. They are scared of getting suction into the mouth of the whale shark when it suctions in the dinner. The whale shark was like a vacuum cleaner sucking in the water.
The rest of the aquarium is interesting especially the deep-sea section. Luckily most of the signs are also in English. A good tip is to good later in the day and take advantage of the late entrance fee. The entrance fee is not small.

The Churaumi Aquarium is the first aquarium in the world to raise whale sharks, or the world's largest fish. This aquarium also has the manta, or the world's largest ray. This aquarium, I believe, is the olny place in the world where a number of them live and breed outside of their natural habitat.
A wonderful aquarium

The Okinawa Curashi Aquarium is located in the north-western part of Okinawa main Island. From Naha it takes two buses to get there and that takes a while and the entrance fee is not cheap either. However, this was a trip worthwhile, for the aquarium was the best we had seen so far (and we have seen a good number). Main attraction is the huge open Pacific tank which has the biggest view window in the world (the acrylc holding back al that water is about 50 cm thick at the base) and the tank is filled with manta rays, sting rays, other sharks, tuna, pelagic fish of all kinds and even three whale sharks, the bigest fish in the world.
Expect the place to be busy any time of the year and come early if you want to be less crowded. The Ocean Expo sie around the aquarium is nice, too, with sea cows, dolphin shows and so forth.
On the way back we teamed up with another couple and negotiated a cheaper (and much faster) taxi ride back to Naha. The taxi driver himself suggested the deal.
