Simply the best you will never forget
Reviewed by r0wee on Aug 12, 2010

Every piece of sushi is professionally served one by one, each has such specific taste and texture that soy sauce is not recommended by the staff. Yes, the chef is right, freshness of the sushi agitates your taste bud and melts in your mouth. Indulge one at a time allowing me to enjoy the aftertaste before the next is served! This excellence totally explained the 3-hour wait outside the door that initially lured me to queue up. This confined space that sits no more than a dozen of people is where I have tasted the best sushi in the world. No fancy restaurant deco, chic contemporary utensils and pricey menu, simply Eat and Go. Remember, must go there really early - Really.

Simply the World's Best Sushi!

Admittedly, I have never been up late enough or early enough to attend to the auction at Tsukiji Fish Market. But twice now, I have stood the long line at Sushi Dai and not regretted one second of the one and a half hour or three hour wait! According to my friend who lives in Tokyo and introduced me to the restaurant, there is no time of the day when there is no long line, even though they start before the break of dawn. That means, it's advisable to get there before 11 am to stand in line, as they close by 2pm. Someone is always tending the line, and though it bends around the corner, they are amazingly good at making sure no one cuts ahead. But enough logistics, you go here for the food! There is just enough seating around the bar for 12 or so people, and you can order the set menu or a la carte. What do you get? The best sushi, maki and accompanying miso soup you will ever eat! We have long puzzled over why Sushi Dai is better than other sushi places even the one next door that also has a long line. It's all fresh, it's all fish, but for some reason Sushi Dai just does it better than anyone else. And the bonus is that the chefs are super nice, which makes the whole experience simply worth repeating. It's worth the wait is an understatement! Perhaps by writing a good review I'm making my own wait on the next trip longer, but this is something one must share! Enjoy!

This is the sushi you will remember for the rest of your life

Don't let the line-up scare you, once you've eaten the first piece of sushi (for me it was toro!) , you will forgive and forget. In fact, considering the huge line-up, the service was relaxed and very friendly. I commend the staff for never losing track of who was next in the throng. The lady kept everyone in order. This is clearly the best sushi most of us will ever eat in our lifetime. Each piece was like a fantasy world of flavours. They end the meal just right by letting you pick your last piece off the menu. It's a bit of a pain to get there so early and have to wait, but don't miss the chance!

Long line but well worth it

The signs for the sushi restaurants are all in Japanese so when I saw a long line at 630 am outside a restaurant I figured it was for the great Sushi Dai. I'm not sure I've had toro this good and the uni was the best I had ever had. The real highlight was the fresh Ikura. Just writing this review is giving me mercury poisoning but well worth it!

The Best Sushi!!!

I just came from The Tsukiji Market and ate sushi at Sushi Dai. Incredible! We found the place just by walking around until we came across this place with a line in front of it. We didn't know which place it was, but figured it must be good if people are willing to wait an hour or two to get inside. We got there at around 9:30 am and waited for about an hour. The place only seats about 12-13 people. Everyone always gets the set course, but I think a-la carte is available. There is a large set course which is 10 pieces that the chef picks + 1 you piece you pick at the end and cost 3500 yen. The other course is a smaller course which cost 2500 yen for 7 pieces. The sushi was amazing. Super fresh and perfectly prepared. The Sushi Dai staff was very polite and spoke English. I don?t want to eat Sushi anywhere else after having eaten here. Highly recommend this place.
