Traveler ReviewsA whirlwind of glorious scenery

In one splendid afternoon, you get a taste of extraordinary landscapes and natural wonders. Breathtaking waterfalls, the Euro-Asian/American rift, Geysir, glacier, volcanic crater, wild blueberries, horses or many colors, plump sheep. Our guide, Friethrik, from Viking Circle Iceland, was knowledgeable, opinionated, witty, thoughtful.
Iceland in a nutshell

If you only have a few days in Iceland, this is a good way to see some of the great scenery the country has to offer.
I did the tour with Reykjavik Excursions and it was one of the best tours (time-wise) I've ever done. You're not rushed at the stops - they give you plenty of time to take in the sights which is a nice change.
Wow!

Hidden Gem in the middle of nowhere

If you're touring the Golden Circle and looking for a good place to stay overnight or more, I'd strongly suggest the hotel "Hekla" in Skeidum, located on road #30 between road #1 and Fludir.
This place became one of most pleasant surprises for us on the trip to Iceland. My friend and I travelled quite excessively in our lifetime, but I don't remember finding a motel (because that's what it is really) so well-maintained and owners so friendly and caring as in "Hekla".
We arrived almost at midnight. The lady owner met us at the door and immediately asked if we had dinner. Since we didn't , running around trying to see as much as possible all day long, she'd offered to heat for us something from the kitchen and served us a very tasty dinner in fabulous dining room, suitable to satisfy the most spoiled traveller. We expected to be charged for this a lot but we weren't.
The rooms didn't have phones (as in majority of Iceland hotels we figured), but apart from that we got a spacious, cozy, clean and comfortable place to relax and sleep like kings.
The breakfast was most tasteful and quite rich. The whole place in the morning sunlight looked like an Alpian resort drowning in flowers, cozy and elegant, with lots of tasteful collectable decor items.
Checking out was easy, friendly, without rush and with great deal of positive attitude, energizing for the new day of exploration.
I hope the hotel will maintain its high standard in future as well, and if it does, you'll add a great deal of good impression of the country you came to visit by staying in this place.
Best day I've had for a long time!

The day was amazing. Our driver Helgi picked us up from our hotel in Reykjavik in his Super Jeep at 08:30.
We visited Thingvellir, Gullfoss and Geyser and even managed to squeeze in an hour on snow mobiles on a glacier.
We had a wonderful day with a wonderful driver. Granted, it was expensive but it was well worth it.
