We had an excellent meal at Prir Frakkar. We loved the atmosphere and were happy to be seated in a glassed in veranda of sorts so that we could enjoy the evening sunshine. After my first look at the menu, I was a little bit afraid we would have to slink back out quietly because there was nothing and I mean nothing that I thought my 7 year old daughter had any chance of eating. However, the waitress immediately came to my rescue and told my daughter that they could make some fish-n-chips especially for her even though it was not on the menu. This made her feel very important and she decided to try it and then discovered for the first time that she did like fish after all. (Whew!) My husband and I had wonderful meals--smoked Puffin appetizer, lamb for him and guillemot for me. This will truly be a memorable meal for me for a long time to come.

One of my all time favorite restaurants!

Prir Frakkar serves excellent seafood and lamb! This fine establishment has been serving some of the best food you'll find anywhere for a little over 20 years now! If you are in Reykjavik you must stop in for dinner! You'll need a reservation!
Probably my favourite restaurant worldwide

I spend a lot of time travelling and eating in restaurants worldwide. Some cheap, some very expensive. However, the Prir Frakkar (The Three Trenchcoats - this is play on words in that Frakkar is slang for French people; much like calling a French restaurant in England, "The Three Frogs"!) holds a special charm.
I have been using this establishment for over 15 years now on my numerous trips to Iceland and never has it failed to please. Much of the food is very Icelandic (think cod chins in cheese sauce or whale au pouvre) and all the better for it.
I was first introduced to this restaurant by an Icelandic friend a couple of days after we had eaten at Perlan. The Perlan is good, but the easy going style; the good food; and, for Iceland, very reasonable prices mean that this is still my favourite.
Highly recommended and, because it is so good, it is essential to book if you don't want a very long wait.
Good stuff

Although the quarters were rather cramped, the food and service were quite good. We had the whale, puffin, and putrified shark. The first two were excellent. The third speaks for itself!
