Was able to get up close and personal with many of the most famous impressionist paintings- extraordinary!
only if you're a serious art lover

Other than seeing the inside of the building this wasn't one of our more enjoyable visits, Admittedly neither of us are art lovers, but we found this museum to be confusing to get around, very hot, even in mid September and just not worth the price unless you have a museum pass.
A Must see, Must do in Paris

We spent a week in Paris and this museum was the highlight of the trip for me. The Train station structure itself is as beautiful as the artwork it holds. So much light with a wonderful glass dome ceiling. Make sure to go outside on the patio near the cafe upstairs where you can see a beautiful view of the river and surrounding sights. The numerous and splendid Monet paintings were such a treat to see up close. We did not know until the end of our visit that you could do a group tour, which I would highly recommend, or at least get the audio package. Check on this at the front desk when you enter, near vendor stands. We attached ourselves to the end of one of these tours and heard some wonderful facts and features on specific pieces, which made the experience even more enjoyable. This museum is a more intimate experience than the Louve, which I found overwhelming. I was surprised that you could get so close to the pieces and there was plenty of bench seats to sit and enjoy the artwork. It was a pleasurable experience and I would advise others that you will need almost the entire day to take in this amazing museum.
Don't miss

As the other reviewers have said, Musee D'Orsay is wonderful. Get there early in the morning to avoid the lines. I found the layout of this rail station turned museum to be a bit confusing. You will need your map. The art work is lovely. You could spend all day here. The restaurant at the top is the cheapest but a bit hard to find, and it is cramped. Although the museum is crowded, the crowds keep moving so you can see and photograph art work. Don't use flash though.
A must see if you like sculpture and impressionist art

Easily found across the Seine from the Jardins de Tuilleries. There are queues to get in, but nothing like the Louvre, we found. This is the place to go if you like impressionist art and sculpture (and probably worth missing if you dont!). We were expecting to love this place as friends had raved about it, but it was not as great as we expected - maybe our fault for expecting too much. The building itself is certainly fascinating as its an old train station - go to the top of the building and look over the balcony to really appreciate the layout. The Van Gogh collection was great too. We had lunch in the main restaurant and were sorely disappointed. The room itself is beautifully grand, sadly the food does not live up to the surroundings. Average at best and quite expensive. There is a cafe up the stairs which may be better.
