Wow, where to begin. In planning our vacation to France this fall, one of my absolute requirements for the family was to visit Normandy and gain a true appreciation for what the Greatest Generation did in service of not only America, but Britain and Canada in their mission to liberate France from the Nazi regime. I have always had a fascination with D-Day and all things military and after finding Elwood on the internet, it became clear his tour was the way to go.
From the beginning of our family tour with Elwood, I knew we had made the right decision. His knowledge of the intricate details that went into the planning of D-Day was remarkable and was amazing to hear. The level of detail he provided regarding the tactics, equipment, and men behind the landings was remarkable and right on par with what I was looking for. While the entire tour experience was excellent, the absoulute highlight for me was our visit to Point du Hoc. The mission of the Rangers at this location always held a very special place in my heart as the man that led them, Col. James Earl Rudder, was the President of my wife, brother, sister-in-law, and my University and is one of the most revered men to us because of the leader he was for our school. Knowing of his character and the leadership he exhibited in academia following his retirement as a Major General, it was imperative that I see with my own eyes what his men accomplished. Upon finding out this information, Elwood's eyes lit up and we talked about the man that then Col. Rudder was and what he accomplished.
Walking on to the field of battle and seeing the massive craters from the bombardment was truly surreal. Even more so was seeing the cliffs that those brave men confronted and conquered under tremendous fire with the knowledge that they knew they likely wouldn't survive. To their credit, the Rangers lived up to their name and provided a proud heritage for the men that proudly where the tab now.
Elwood, from the bottom of my heart I thank you for the amazing experience. I can cross off my list one of the Top 10 things I wanted to accomplish in my life in having a truly remarkable D-Day tour experience. I hope that in your visit to the States in the future, should you make it to Texas, please let us know as we would love to visit again. Best of luck in your upcoming trip.
D-Day revisited

My Son and I were able to spend the day with Ellwood revisiting the beaches and studying "Operation Overload".
My Father had landed on Omaha on D-Day, 1944. I made the trip once with him but he was not able to return this time. Having Ellwood take a personal interest in my Fathers past added to the unique tour experience that only someone with Ellwood's knowledge and passion can provide.
Ellwood, thank you for keeping the memory of this tremendous sacrifice for freedom alive.
Outstanding Tour, did as a day trip from Paris

We booked a private tour w/Ellwood based upon the recommendations on this site and the tour lived up to our high expectations. Ellwood kept things interesting and educational for the 4 of us who had different levels of knowledge regarding D Day. He really brought history to life. We did the tour as a long day trip from Paris, Ellwood met us at the train station in Carenton and we spent the day with him before returning to Paris that evening. When we booked our trip to Paris, my Dad wanted to known if it was possible to go to Normandy. Since this was his first and most likely only trip to France, I wanted to make this work and it did. Dad's knowledge of history runs fairly deep, so I needed to find a guide who could add to his knowledge, answer his questions and keep the tour interesting for those of us with less knowledge. Ellwood did not disappoint, my Dad has said our tour was the highlight of the 2 week trip to France and Italy.

Not as knowledgable as he would have us believe

A word of caution about Ellwood.
I took a Rick Steves tour earlier in the year and visited Normandy for the second consecutive summer. When I met Ellwood, it became clear very quickly that he gains confidence very quickly if he sniffs your knowledge level is not good. Given the chance he invented answers to questions rather than to lose face and admit he does not know what he is talking about.
To a novice I'm sure he seems the real deal, to anyone with more than a passing interest in the battle of Normandy his limited knowledge is evident very early in the day.
Having taken tours with Overlord and Battlebus in previous years I would certainly recommend those guides way above this.
Ellewood Brings World War II to Life

If you're interested in sitting on a crowded bus, listenening to guides describe city highlights in multiple languages only to miss all that is on the opposite side of the bus than you.... then this is NOT the tour for you.
On the D-Day Battle tour, Ellewood brings his passion and knowledge to life and personalizes the tour for your group. He educates everyone before heading out for the tour and has a way of making everyone feel as though they were back in time. Without hesitation, I recommend this tour to everyone and rate this tour a 10++.
