Avignon Wine Tour

We had been given a contact for Francois who runs Avignon Wine tours. He has 5 tours to choose from though I am sure he would do a bespoke one if required. He picked 4 of us up at 9.30 from my sons chateaux and did tour 5. Francois's knowledge is amazing on all aspects of wine tasting and production. We all learnt so much during the day. We visited 4 very different vineyards and stopped for lunch in a most picturesque town. We now look for "legs", the wine variety, aroma, colour and many other aspects in wine. It was a joy to spend the day with him - I would recommend his tours wholeheartedly Jenny

This became truly a highlight of our European vacation. Yes, even better than soaking up the sun in Nice. Truly a wonderful experience. Don't miss it!

Francois is a very knowledgeable and entertaining host and the day he provides is full of interesting information and great wines. It is well worth the money to have someone who knows where to go and teaches you how to taste and evaluate the wines. We really learned a lot and would highly recommend any of the tours he offers!!

An Excellent Wine Tour - Take a tour when you arrive - You may want to take two!

We had planned to rent a car and tour some wineries near Avignon - the Cotes De Rhone region. In the end we booked this wine tour instead, for the entire day. It cost about the same as renting a car and paying for the gas and insurance, but was a joy and the best tour we did on our trip to Europe this year. It was so much better than the chore of doing the driving yourself and allowed us to experience a variety of good wineries, not just the ones we happened to see on the road. We could also enjoy as many samples of wine as we wanted and know that our guide would take care of the driving and knew exactly where he was going. I'm sure this tour allowed us to visit more wineries, learn more about wine, be very much more relaxed and to better enjoy the wine, the scenery and the wineries. Francois was our guide and is the owner of this company. As a former Maitre D in four star hotels, he was professional, courteous, knowledgable about wine and also showed us where we could find a superb and authentic Provencal restaurant for lunch and for dinner. While we have some ability to speak French, it was great that Francois had worked for some years in different countries and spoke English very well. Francois also added a little surprise into our tour. He is a truly wonderful host and, from his years of experience in the hospitality world, knows how to entertain his clients and make their experience special. Over the course of the day we were lucky to visit 7 different wineries in the region around Gigondas. Every day of the week is a different tour and we wish we had been staying longer so that we could have taken another tour. The wineries we visited included one with an interactive, sensory wine museum and had wines that varied greatly in style. Having done wine tours on our own in the Niagara region of Canada and in Sonoma and Napa, California, this guided wine tour exposed us to new wines and was just the perfect tour to teach us more about wine in it's many variations. I encourage anyone visiting the region to enjoy one of these wine tours. Do it early, you might want to take two.

We really enjoyed our wine tour with Avignon Wine Tours! It is WELL worth the money and Francois is a great guide with a wonderful sense of humor! We visited 5 wineries and he even threw in an extra surprise or two for the day. He also speaks very good English. Our group had a great, relaxing time and I would highly recommend this tour with Francois if you are visiting the area.
