Traveler ReviewsGuayaquil's Main Attraction

The Malecon 2000 is a beautifully renovated boardwalk which is essentially Guayaquil's main attraction. It is immaculately maintained, and heavily patrolled, making it very tourist-friendly.
Within it there are several playgrounds, monuments, restaurants, R/C boat pond, IMAX theater, and small botanical garden. I saw several parrots hanging out in the trees, and fed some strange looking ducks (I'm used to the north american kinds) while kicking back a few beers.
There are some touristy shops towards the southern end, and Cerro Santa Ana borders the north.
The best part is watching the locals really utilize this area. The playgrounds are packed well into the evening, and everyone just appears to be having a good time as they stroll up and down.
I like it, you will too.
Guayaquil's beautiful riverfront park

We visited this beautiful park alongside the Guayas River and were impressed by all it had to offer. At the south end of the park is a small craft market. As you walk further, you pass many benches, an outdoor food court, a small shopping center, two large boats that give tours, many ice cream stands, a botanical garden, and much more. At the north end of the park is an Imax theater, a cultural center that houses both modern art and a good collection of pre-Columbian archeological pieces, and a Guayaquil in miniature museum.
We ate at a restaurant that is approximately in the middle of the park and watched a family of yellow crowned night herons that were perched in a tree outside the picture window next to the river. Later in the evening, we saw them hunting alongside the river at low tide.
The whole park is well patrolled by security guards as well as police, so the area feels very safe. It is also extremely clean and well maintained. There are several underground parking lots located throughout the park.
