This unique museum has numerous awe-inspiring sculptings by Bertel Thorvaldsen such as;"Christ and The Apostles","Josef Poniatowski",and "Venus and Cupid".It has Thorvaldsen's fine collection of early and mid-nineteenth century paintings by artists such as;C.W.Eckersberg,C.Kobke,Pierre Chauvin,J.C. Dahl, and J.A. Koch. Most of these paintings are landscapes or cityscapes.Personal favorites were;C.W.Eckersberg's"Thorvaldsen's Arrival in Copenhagen",Carl Von Vogelstein's "Thorvaldsen",J.C.Dahl's"Saint Peter's Square by Moonlight",and A.Reidel's"Family of Neapolitan Fisherman".This museum also possesses Thorvaldsen's collection of Greek,Etruscan, and Egyptian antiquities. It also has a few fine Early Renaissance paintings(Taddeo Di Bartolo,Lorenzo Monaco).I highly recommend this museum.
Excellent

I left visiting this Museum until my last day in Copenhagen as I had thought this rather dull looking place wouldn't hold much interest. How wrong I was!
Thorvaldsen is considered to have been one of Denmarks best sculptors and nearly all of his works are housed here. Even some of his possessions, books etc are also found in the place.
The Museum is easy to get around, all the exhibits are displayed in individual superbly decorated rooms and the sculptures and exhibits themselves are stunning. Many of them relate to Greek mythology and most rooms give details of the story behind the sculpture or reliefs within the room.
At present (August 2005), there are a row of winged chairs in the entrance hall in which you can sit and listen to various stories by Hans Christian Andersen.
I rarely give an "excellent" when writing any type of review on TripAdvisor, but in my opinion, in this case, it is justified.
