Get here before they open and enjoy sitting in the gorgeous gardens. Well kept and very serene. They are at the back of the castle, which is the better entrance.
Buy the combination ticket. Lets you into the castle, the treasury and Amalienborg castle. 90kr.
The castle is very pretty inside, with a good exhibit of Danish art, history and mostly reproduction furniture. The treasury is well done with the crowns of Denmark and various priceless treasures.
It took about 1 hour total to see this and was worth it. Being there early avoided the tour groups which were descending just as we were leaving.
Best display of Crown Jewels

Of all the royal family collections of crown jewels we saw during our visit to Scandinavia, the Danish crown jewels kept here were the most impressive. Definitely worth a visit.
A Pleasure To See So Much Treasure

This is a very special royal site featuring the crown jewels of Denmark(Christian the Fourth's Sword,Absolute Monarch Crown,Silver with Amber Dishes,Gold Tableware,Ivory Royal Sculptings).I also saw a few royal rooms-most were closed for renovation.I also saw fine paintings by Jens Juel,Pieter Isaacz,Jacob Van Doordt, and Herman Klock in the Royal Painting Section. For twenty-five kronors you can purchase a big booklet that will explain the Royal Treasures in greater depth. This is also a good place to improve your knowledge of Danish History.
Very nice grounds and gardens

I didn't have time to see the castle or crown jewels, but if you are passing by the grounds are open to the public and quite nice to walk around. They function as a city park, with many people relaxing.
A must see

This wasn't on the list to see, but the view of the garden from the Roundtower drew us in and glad it did! First the gardens. The lane of trees is wonderful. Crossing the moat to the castle conjours up movies and books of the past. I suggest you see the movie before viewing the castle and crown jewels as you get a great overview of what you are going to view. We saw it last and spent more time going oh, now I understand as it explains what you will view in the castle and the jewels. If you buy a photo pass they allow you take pictures of the jewels and the house.
