Traveler ReviewsExpensive, good food, minuscle portions - avoid.

The food? Good. Service? So-So. The insult? Unparalleled.
I visited El Grano de Oro a few months ago, for my wedding anniversary dinner. I knew it was expensive, (for local standards) but I heard the food was great and the portions would leave you satisfied.
We ordered grilled salmon, that came with caviar and vegetables. My surprise was when the actual food came. The salmon portion was about the size of a small cheese sandwich, and the caviar... I guess they sell you the caviar by the egg. If I am correct, the chef had a limit of 20 caviar eggs per dish.
The "vegetables" that came as side dishes were indeed vegetables (plural): two spinach leaves. Yes, that's it TWO. To add insult to injury, when we told the waiter about the so-called vegetables, he gave us a contemptuous look and pointed at the two leaves. Not happy with this answer, we managed to get extra vegetables (as the minuscule appetizers and the entree hadn't done the trick). The unsympathetic waiter came back with with extra vegetables "under the chef's protest": carrots and sweet squash. The quantity? I think you could fit it in a soda bottle cap. I guess more veggies would've sent this place into bankruptcy.
Bottom line: If you like food that tastes and looks great AND you don't mind finishing it in three or four bites, this places is for you. If not, go elsewhere. There are plenty of similar places where you can get your money's worth. I ain't recommending this place nor returning to it - it has been added to my "Never again" list.
Don't miss this restaurant

Stayed at the Grano de Oro hotel with the expectation that we would enjoy all our meals here. We had six meals here, all were outstanding. The interior is beautifully designed. The outdoor patio is very peaceful, the restaurant in general is very romantic at night. The first day we had lunch the restaurant was filled with local business people dressed in suits but the atmosphere is very casual for such an upscale restaurant, we were in shorts and t-shirts. The staff encouraged us to be comfortable with no dress code. The menu had many choices of fish, don't miss the Tuna Martini appetizer - it was wonderful, had it multiple times. The only downside was the size and cost of the Grey Goose martini - it was way overpriced for a very, very small martini, just one shot glass.
