Our family of 5 returned from our best family vacation ever at Costa Rica thanks to Avispa's Adventures! Avispa's Adventures truly is a one stop shop with a personal touch!! Amy provided us with airport transportation services (from San Jose and to Liberia), personalized tours , help in finding a villa rental and even a cook for meals at our villa rental!!
We did 3 tours- Miravalles, Class 3/4 Whitewater Rafting, and horseback riding half day (which wasn't even on the list but Amy got it done!). You can basically tailor the tour to whatever your family will enjoy the most AND if there are places you would like to see or tours not on the list, they can make it happen. There was no pressure to be on a time watch and it really is at your own pace! At the end of the tours, we had the option of stopping at the groceries, dinner and souvenir stores on the way to our villa rental! The personalized service they provide is truly genuine and Amy has knack for reading people and what they will enjoy.
If you're reading this and past reviews, like I was when I was planning our trip asking yourself -"Could theyreally be that good?" I can wholeheartedly say YES THEY ARE!!
We only wished there was an Avispa's Adventures in every vacation destination!
Must do!

I have to say, Avispa's is a must do no matter what your travel plans include. Amy is so friendly and willing to help in any way. We took the Miravelles Adventure on our first full day in Costa Rica and it was beyond expectations. The day was filled with so many fun activities blended with some authentic CR flair. We went on a zip line, horse ride, scenic hike, and a mud bath that was really cool. On the way to one of our locations, the tour bus suddenly stopped as our driver and tour guide spotted a family of Monkeys in some trees directly overhanging the road way. We got out and counted more than 20 monkeys and it was one of the most memorable moments on the trip. We also planned another tour for a the River adventure but when we woke, Amy called and advised us that it wouldn't be wise to proceed with the tour as the wildlife would not be on display. This really said a lot to me about the way Amy runs her business. She could have easily sent the tour guide to us and taken our money as we had planned to go and would not have know otherwise. This is one small example of why I would recommend you book a tour through Avispa's. They exemplify everything we found the Costa Rican culture to be about. Truly accomodating! We would definately do business with Avispa's again.
Avispa's is the ONLY tour company you should book with!!!!!

Avispa?s Adventures- There is no other way to say it but this is one 5-star first class operation! Amy puts in effort from the very minute you contact her! My boyfriend and I were planning a trip to Costa Rica and were trying to save money but still have a fabulous adventure. When surfing TripAdvisor I came across Amy and liked the description of the personalized service and the small tour groups to off the beaten path locations. So I let her know that we were interested in being grouped with another couple or group in order to get the discounted prices. She took our personalities into consideration a grouped us with another couple from our hotel. We all got along fabulously that we left with two new friends!
First let me say that Carlos, our driver, was fabulous! So courteous and helpful! He has a presence that makes you and your belongings feel safe. He has such a great sense of humor- we all only wish that our high school Spanish was better. There is always next year! Carlos- you better be ready for us!
The tour we booked was the Miravalles tour- which is their specialty combo tour. The morning begun with the zip line- this was great fun! We then went on a hike/horseback ride through the rainforest and ended up at the Volcano. When sitting in the hot springs enjoying the company and sunset, they brought us a bottle of sparkling wine? talk about the extra touches! We all discussed it and came to the conclusion that they had thought of everything! They went out of their way to stop by a souvenir store, took pictures of us while we were covered in mud and not once rushed us through the day to go to the next event or go home! It was like they themselves had actually walked through the days events and asked themselves ?now what would make this better?? Such Customer Service!
We decided to come back for a beach day and white water rafting? both of which were just as great as the first day! She helped recommend which beaches would be the best and helped us find the day the river would be the least crowded.
However, the final touch was what ever impressed us, was the day we were headed back to the States. Carlos came for us and dropped us off at the Airport, however, after boarding our plane there was mechanical trouble and we sat on the ramp for 5 hours prior to Continental cancelling the flight. When we got back into the country from customs- there was Amy standing in line at Continental. She heard about our troubles and knew there was limited space on Delta and American, so she held a place in line so we were the fifth people in line and were able to be rebooked. But not only did she do that- but she called the hotel and reserved a room just in case! She had nothing to gain from us at that point- just that she cared that we were not stuck at the airport and were taken care of!!!!
I have no words about how much she cares about her customer! You are not just a dollar sign to her- you are a customer when you arrive and a friend when you leave. We will always hold a special place in our heart for Amy and Carlos!
We will always compare any other tour company to Avispa?s and I?m sure that no one will ever even come close! Do yourself a favor, don?t even look at another company- just book through Avispa?s. They will take care of you and you too will enjoy what Costa Rica has to offer and become family!
The Absolute Best

Costa Rica is a beautiful country with delightful people. We had a wonderful vacation there because of several additional factors. First, we contacted Avispa's Adventures. Second, we did not rent a car, instead having Avispa and Gustavo drive us. We were taken to authentic, local restaurants and shown many sights we would have otherwise overlooked. Signage in the countryside is poor, at best, and a rental car would have been a disaster for me. It was slightly more expensive, but worth every penny. Third, Avispa gave us the active schedule we requested and every tour was a delight. From white water rafting, to ATVing, to canyoning, to ziplining, every new excursion was more memorable than the last. The guides they use for their excursions could not have been better. Fourth, we were placed in excellent accommodations I could not have found on my own. I could not recommend Avispa's Adventures or Costa Rica more highly.
Highlight of our Trip

We used Avispas for our two tours while visiting Costa Rica during August 2008. The tours we went on were the Miravalles Volcano Tour and the Palo Verde Riverboat tour.
Miravalles:
We started with a zip line canopy tour. Loved it and I am afraid of heights. We then went for a fantastic typical Costa Rican lunch. Then it was horseback riding, tour of the volcano crater, sauna, mud bath, hot springs, and cool bath. It was great not be on a large tour. Only six people and closeness of that kind of tour just made it all the better.
Palo Verde:
We took a river boat tour on this trip. Saw many birds, iguanas, crocodiles, and monkeys. Capachin monkeys came right on to the boat to check us out! Large crocodile came within touching distance of our boat. Don't pet the Crocs :). Priceless! Another good lunch, although not as good as the first tour. I tried Corn Juice for the first time, will not be trying it again. Once again a benefit of a smaller tour, we were able to stop a grocery store to pick up coffee, etc for half the price of any touristy place.
Bottom Line: Don't automatically book with the tours out of the hotel just because they are there. Some people in our hotel did that, took the same trips we did (with some differences) and didn't have as good of things to say about their experiences. It is worth the little bit of extra money. Call Amy and Jose.
