Probably the best restaurant in Siem Reap, Meric is located with the Hotel de la Paix at the top end of town (literally, not metaphorically...). The menu provides the timid with a safe introduction to Khmer cuisine, or for those weary of pra hoc (pungent fermented fish sauce) and amok (Khmer curry), an outstanding and changing array of international dishes. Vegetarian options are always specifically created and not just 'steak and veg with out the steak'. Breakfast is definitely worth a try, although the serving sizes seem to have diminished a great deal recently (which is easily remedied by asking the service staff to make it a little more generous). Meals are at very western prices (dinner for 2 with drinks (the wine list is exceptional) is usually > $US150), but as the hotel has one of the most generous employee benefit schemes (including providing staff and families with regular overnight use of a suite) and as the standard is so consistently high, it is worth every cent.
