I live in Brussels and got the chance to visit the museum for the first time with friends from France. I went there in Autumn 2009 on a weekday. The museum was already full so we got tickets for the next day.
In the museum you can get an audio guide in several languages - I got one in English for me and my friend (I forgot the price). It's some kind of walkie-talkie so you don't use a headset but rather a small speaker that you can share. I highly recommend the audio guide.
The museum itself is still new and is well-organized also. It presents most of Magritte's works organized by periods (and chronologically). I learned so much about his works and personal life through vintage photos.
For me, one of the best museums in Brussels.
Very good, just avoid week-ends

This museum is great, hoever not too enjoyable if there are far too many people. In spite of the compulsory booking this museums grants access to far too many visitors at the same time. I assume it is better on a week day.
Book online before you go for the new museum

Opened I think in July 2009, the new museum is in the Musee Royaux des Beaux Arts but not well marked on all the maps I saw including my Time Out guide which still talk about an older museum elsewhere. As it's still newish queues are likely but booking online before we went was easy (8 euros) and you can print the tickets out at home/work. Definately worth a visit.
The new one or the old one

There seems to be some confusion in the reviews about this museum. The details of this indicate it is the old (but existing) museum, located in the Brussels area of Jette. However, some of the reviews refer to the new one in the city centre, at the musee des beaux arts, website is http://www.musee-magritte-museum.be/
The new one is a nice museum, giving a good oversight of the development of his paintings. It is probably worth taking the audio tour. We did not do that and missed background on the symbolism of the paintings. It gets quite busy in which event you are allocated a time slot to visit the museum. But you can always entertain yourself in the museum cafe behind where you buy the tickets, or nearby on Grand Place and around. Apparently tickets can also be booked online.
incoutournable
