Best Dining Experience in Aruba

If you have one opportunity for a special dinner out.....PLEASE LOOK NO FURTHER. The Marandi is absolutely perfect. The atmosphere, decor, service, and food is awesome. The most friendly staff and waiters anywhere. The staff encourage the guests to take their time before and after dinner to enjoy the outside lounge and/or bar. Even the lighted path to the restrooms is special. The lounge area is cozy, intimate, and relaxing. There are so many beautiful areas for photos also. It was certainly one of my best nights in Aruba. Prior to eating dinner, I told my husband that the atmosphere and waiters were so beautiful that the food would have to be terrible to change my mind. Well, it turned out that the food was delicious. We will surely visit the Marandi when returning to Aruba.

My husband and I went to Marandi for dinner on the occasion of our 5th wedding anniversary. We would never have known about this place had it not been for a lovely local couple we met at the bar up at the lighthouse while out site-seeing. We are so happy they recommended it to us and wish we had a way to contact them to thank them.
The location is definitely off the beaten path. The best way to find it is to head to the airport and follow the signs for General Aviation. Just when you think you are hopelessly lost, you start to see the signs for the restaurant and then it is just around the corner.
Marandi is an open-air restaurant right on the water. Plan to get there in time to watch the beautiful sunset. Then once it gets really dark, make sure you look up and enjoy the amazing star-gazing. I wish I remembered more from Astronomy classes; I would have been able to identify things I?ve never been able to see before. We also could see the fish swimming (and dining) in the water below us. This is a beautiful, romantic setting which was perfect for our anniversary.
Every bite of food we had was excellent. We shared the lobster bisque and their special Mirandi salad with ham, smoked chicken and mango chutney. For entrees, I had the catch of the day which was grouper and shrimp in a spicy garlic sauce; my husband had the Veal Osso Buco. Of course, we tasted each other?s dishes. For dessert, the chef prepared a sampler for us that carefully avoided our food allergies. We had a different wine with each course: a bottle of French Chardonnay with the appetizers, a 2005 St. Emilion with the entrees, and a dessert wine that they offered us at 1/2 price because the cork was broken.
The staff were all outstanding. They were friendly, warm and helpful and worked well as a team. We were even offered bug spray when we were first seated to help us combat the mosquitoes (which are inevitable on the water at sunset). I think they were all emigres from Holland, so it was a very European dining experience. They encouraged us to take our time, relax and enjoy our evening. They made excellent recommendation of wines to pair with our meals. We just could not have asked for a better dining experience.
As for the price, the entire meal cost about $200 (not including the gratuity). For a 4-course meal with 3 bottles of wine, I think that is a pretty reasonable price. This was our one big night out during a week-long stay, so we were planning to splurge a bit, and we are very happy we did.
I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Aruba. If we ever go back, we will definitely include this in our plans.
Wow. Just...wow.

This restaurant is a jewel, located on a dock that juts into the sea. We showed up to the candlelit restaurant at 8 pm on a Wednesday night (7.16.08) without reservations; the professional and accommodating hostess gave us a fantastic table right next to the water. The bartender was friendly and outgoing, and the staff had the quiet competency of fine-dining veterans. I had stir-fried vegetables and fruits in a hollowed-out pineapple, drizzled with a luscious sweet-and-sour sauce. My dining partner had grouper filet encrusted with parmesan and zucchini. Outstanding food, by any standards (and we're both pretty tough to please). This food would stand up to any East Coast restauranteur's palate.
Make no mistake: Marandi is on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for. Wine list was terrific. Make reservations if you want to watch the sunset.
