Your own private beach too....

Whilst staying at a Villa on the island we went to Hermitage to visit and loved the place so much that we got married there. We had a superb day, great food, nothing ever seems to be too much trouble for the staff. I work in the hospitality industry myself and believe me I know what good service is, and they provide it. The Manager Michael's attention to detail is meticulous!! We stayed in a beach villa on that night and it was roomy, well designed and well equipped. Great combination of natural build materials and modern equipment. I loved the open air shower attached at the side. There was plenty of room for the guests arriving to change too. So impressed were they that some have already booked to return. About 8 months after the wedding we went back for a 6 day break. We were lucky to get in, as the place is becoming so popular, so book well in advance!! We stayed on the hill this time and loved the short walk to the cottage, and what a great view. Many of the guests just choose to stay at the cottage during the day and use the plunge pool and so the resort never seems crowded.. you practically have the place to yourself. It is really somewhere to go and chill out. so may disappoint those who are looking to socialise on holiday. I don't really see that Hermitage is about that. We were Impressed again with the food, fresh fish and produce, daily...ummmmmm!! The chef helps you out by watching the size of the portions, otherwise you end up completely overeating. The staff even dropped us by speedboat onto a deserted beach for an afternoon of complete privacy, with a beach umbrella and picnic,at no extra cost. Like I said nothing is too much trouble.

A wonderful unique place

Hermitage Bay is in a class of its own. It would not strike you as you leaf through a travel brochure, but there is something unique and magical about the place. It is not the only small hotel in the world which can offer a secluded beach and manicured gardens overlooking an unspoilt tropical bay. It is not the only place which offers really comfortable spacious bungalows fitted with impeccable, under-stated good taste, al fresco dining and wide selection of free drinks (including non-vintage champagne) whenever you want them. It is not just the excellent design and stunning setting that make Hermitage Bay stand out. The people who work there are really special - without exception. The whole team (and from the general manager down, they are a team) really look after you and care deeply about what they do. There is a subtle attention to detail about everything this hotel offers. The service is courteous without being cold, friendly without being overly so, attentive but never intrusive. Towels will appear for you, as if invisibly, at the point of need. Try to move your own sunbeds and hands will appear to help you. Drinks will be offered just when you were thinking you might like one, to save you the effort of the short stroll to the bar. Staff will chat if you want (or not if you don?t) and always seem happy and enthusiastic - and they are able people; good at what they do. It seemed that nothing was too much trouble for anyone on the team. One evening, for example, my wife had mentioned how much she had enjoyed the sourfruit, so the chef arranged sourfruit for her whenever she wanted it. The senior management is always on hand, acting as proper hosts not merely managers. Assistant general manager, Michael Eutrope, in particular is a real star and a pleasure to spend time with. You do not generally go to the Caribbean for fine cuisine but we found that the offerings of the resident chef here were consistently world-class - and well presented. Dining at Hermitage Bay was a culinary experience of a quality which was as welcome as it was surprising to us. Local dishes were especially good. My wife and I have been to other splendid places before our visit to Hermitage Bay last February and since. Hermitage Bay stands out above the rest. Memories of more recent trips to other wonderful places have faded faster. Few holiday experiences are so good that we would rather go back than try something new but we plan to go back to Hermitage Bay and cannot imagine being satisfied with anything else in the tropics. Hermitage Bay is a place of real quality - discrete and unostentatious; minimalist but far from basic. You feel like you have really been somewhere. It is a place where you can rediscover what it is to be human. If you don?t like it you probably don?t have a soul. If you're looking for bright lights, loud music or noisy crowds, this is not for you. (Thankfully. Please don?t come). If you don't like foreign food, stay at home. If you want a free minibus to the local disco, go to Butlins. But if you want to be enchanted go to Hermitage Bay.
