Shoal Bay (east) as there are in fact two Shoal Bay's in Anguilla, something you will only notice if you are driving around the island as all taxi drivers will take you to the east Shoal Bay, where you will find available lockers to keep your valuables while you go for a swim and as previous reviewers have mentioned many shades of blue and green waters with the sea breaking over the natural reef about 80 yards out to sea, so be careful if you cross this point as currents become stronger.
there are many beaches along the beach, but never stayed in any off them personally so unable to pass on any comments, however there are a few bars and places to eat for your typcal catch of the day, or the good old burger and chips, but if it is fine dinning you are after you are spoilt on Anguilla, mind you they can be a little pricey don't forget like all small islands a lot of things have to be imported, but i am sure while in Anguilla you will not be complaining too much, with the friendly people on the island, in fact on the way to the beach today i saw a number of Rotarians planting plants near the roundabout on the way, just to add a little more colour.
if you did manage to go to the Shoal Bay west, here you will also find sandy beaches and blue seas, but little else just in case you fancied a quieter beach, but the good thing about that reef around the island it stops the big cruise ships coming in so none of the beaches are ever over run, enjoy
Shoal for sure !

Shoal Beach was one of the highlights of our trip.Like the reviewer from Cardiff we took the boat from St Martaan. As a party of 5 though this was US$30 x 5 for a day trip. The taxi cost approx US$50 there and back.So US$200 for starters ! Still the beach was magnificent but little in the way of facilities. This is to be expected though as the near pristine nature of the place would be spoilt if developed so We cannot have it all ways. The Island is flattish and the Beaches , Cays and coves are the highlights on offer here.I was told that the most famous resident on the island was Chuck Norris !

We only had a day trip to Shoal Bay so we can't comment on accomodation. We took the ferry from St Martin (Marigot) to Anguilla. Cost was $30 per person. We then took a taxi directly to Shoal Bay ($16 return) as we wanted to snorkel and I had read this was the best off beach snorkleling on the Island. What I hadn't realised was how breathtakingly beautiful the beach would be. The sand was like icing sugar and the sea beautiful shades of blue and warm too. We snorkeled directly from the beach and it was a short swim to the coral reefs. There were lots of colourful fish and the longer you hovered over the reefs the more fish would appear. The food was good about $18 for a lobster salad and $2 a beer. The only down side was that there was a drop down into the sea and it was difficult to get back onto the beach with tired legs after a long swim. So not for non swimmers or anyone who prefers a paddle. We did look at a few hotels, but there were none I would recommend after a quick viewing. We will return and next time stay a few nights!.
